Troop 32664 Newsletter 1-26-10
Scouts & Parents:
I have been in touch with Diane who runs the Cards for the troops program called Operation Quiet Comfort. She is thrilled you want to make cards. We do not need to make envelopes. They support over 70 combat hospitals with cards. So there is a need. They take all holiday/occaisions all year and hold them until it is time to distribute them. Just so you know, they sent out 2000 Christmas cards and will take anything we make. Any occasions we selected, such as grandparent's day, that they do not take will be distributed locally.
It is time each of you start working on your 5 holidays/occaisions (see below). Make sure you log all the time you put in with a description of what you did for that time. I have more log forms if you need them.
You can start by designing the cards you want to make. You can then have the other scouts reproduce your design. You can make more than 1 design for a holiday/occaision. You can bring your card designs to meetings so we can all take a look at them and can offer suggestions if needed.
Cards should be 4x5"( 8x10 card stock) or 4.25x5.5 (sheet of card stock 8.5x11 folded in half). NO GLITTER! But you can securely glue on embellishments or ribbon.
The inside should have a heartfelt or inspirational message. You can check out wording in card shops or on the internet to use. Cards will be signed with first name, city, and state so soldiers can see support from all over the country.
I am going to apply for a grant from the United Way to help pay for the supplies. The grant must include a written action plan devised by you girls and a budget of expenses. We will work on this at our Jan 26th meeting at Meehan's . We will also be painting on our ceramic snowmen and doing requirements for the Just Jewelry Interest Patch. Jill you can bring your school pictures for everyone to put in their Journey Book.
Our Feb 2nd meeting will be at Mrs. Wallace's house. I have a meeting in Hazleton. You will need to bring your Journey book. You will also do requirements for the Just Jewelry Interest Patch. Reminder your cookie order is due to Mrs Walace.
If you are unsure of what to do for your cards, we will have a meeting at the Meehan house on Feb 9th to learn some cardmaking techniques. Maria Carr, (she is a Stampin Up demonstrator) will be coming to our meeting to teach you some simple things to make your cards special and professional looking. I have a lot of cardmaking tools to help. If you have things, bring them to use.
Our Tues, Feb 23th meeting will be 6-8 pm at Bridal Trinkets behind Burger King in Shavertown. Girls will be able to make a necklace or earrings/bracelet set. Cost is about $10 per person. If there is time they can do both for an additional charge. We will finish the Just Jewelry Interest Patch here.
Thurs, Feb 25th, Cookie Order pick up after 4pm at Mrs. Wallace's house. Call Lisa's cell first 690-2444.
